The Canadian Medical Association released this discussion paper in 2019 “…to review the issues and challenges of making digital health care, and in particular virtual care, a mainstream activity in the delivery of health care in Canada” (CMA, 2019, p. i).
The paper starts with seven critical questions for discussion. An example of these questions is: “What opportunities are there for virtual care to mitigate inequalities in access to health care in Canada (e.g., rural–urban, Indigenous Peoples, people with low income)?” (CMA, 2019, p. 1). It then proceeds to provide a brief history of digital care, a review of barriers that impede its adoption, and how virtual care impacts quality.
